The Númenóreans, or Dúnedain, were a scion of the Edain, the noblest race of Men in the First Age of middle earth. They were given the island of Númenor at the beginning of the Second Age by the Valar, which became the basis of their name.

During the first age, the unions of Elves and Men were created.  Elwing and Eärendil met at the Havens of Sirion and from their union twins were born named Elros and Elrond.

To the two half-elves, the Valar gave a choice: Elros chose to join the race of men, whereas Elrond decided to join hands with elves.

According to Tolkien Gateaway, an average Númenórean could reach up to 6’4′, taller than two Rangar. Elendil was the tallest of the Men who escaped the Downfall. They were also really powerful physically.

Numenoreans participated in the war of wrath and sacrificed their lives. As a reward for their services, the Valar gave rewards to the surviving Edain.

They were given an island continent in the western sea, which was named Númenor, as their final place. The second gift was the most precious one, far longer life (300 years or more) than other men, longer height, and wisdom.

The average lifespan of Numenoreans was ranging from 350 years to as long as 420. The ones on the line of Elros generally lived 400 years or more. Men outside of the royal line very rarely managed to live 400 or beyond.

The Rings of Power‘ is created by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay. It will premiere on September 2 on Prime. The shooting of the second season is expected to begin in October.
