5. Dwarves
Dwarves are races who live in the mountains of middle earth. They are into mining, metallurgy, blacksmithing, and jewelry. Also known by the nicknames Khazâd, Casari, or Naugrim, the Dwarves were created by Aulë. He was unwilling to wait for the Children of Ilúvatar as he wanted to teach someone his lore and crafts. This led to the creation of the first seven Fathers of the Dwarves under the mountains. Despite their small size, Dwarves are actually physically strong creatures.
4. Men
In middle-earth, Men denote humans whether male or female. They are described as the second people, as they were created after elves and are mortal. Men are really strong and free people responsible for destroying the ring. They are also the race that desired power more than anyone else in Middle-Earth. Warriors like Faramir and Aragorn have shown how strong and powerful men can be. There were several important groups of men in the three ages like Edain, Haradrim, Variags, and Lossoth among others.
3. Elves
Elves are immortal creatures in the middle earth, which gives them an upper hand compared to Men and Dwarves. They like to live in forests and wild natural places and are an expert in archery. Elves are massive in size and are considered dangerous yet beautiful. Their languages consist of Sindarin and Quenya that is different from other creatures. Considered to be the fairest and wisest creatures on earth, Elves are also immune to illness. Their vision, hearing skills, and other abilities are far superior to Men or Dwarves.
2. Maiar
Maiar is a supernatural and angelic race in middle earth. These primordial spirits were created to help the Valar first shape the World. Their powers are diverse and unknown. However, it is known that they have enough power to augment the world around them. Maiar are essentially immortal and cannot be destroyed by physical harm. Their excellent shapeshifting and invisible abilities allow them to wander the earth. They also have the ability to teleport and take anyone or anything’s form. Gandalf was a powerful Maiar.
1. Valar
The most powerful character in Tolkien’s legendarium, Valar are angelic powers or powers of Arda who shaped and ruled the world. They have somewhat similar and superior abilities to Maiar. For example, they can control light and fire and can also transform into any type of form. It is also mentioned in the books that Valar had the power to raise the massive island of Númenor up to the surface from the Sea. Valar’s power is often compared to that of god and the Elves have high regard for them. Tolkien’s posthumous books ‘The Silmarillion’ and ‘The History of Middle-earth’ have mentioned them in great detail.
