Robert Pattinson is finally back in Gotham, but apparently the Dark Knight isn’t quite as easy on his body as it used to be. The actor has begun filming ‘The Batman: Part II’ in London, returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman for Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel.
While Pattinson remains excited about the movie, he openly admitted that the physical demands of playing Batman have become noticeably tougher.
‘The Batman 2’ Is Taking A Toll On Robert Pattinson’s Body
Speaking about production, Pattinson joked that he’s “definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot,” adding that the action is “significantly harder” than it used to be. Honestly, it’s a surprisingly relatable confession from someone playing one of the world’s most physically demanding superheroes.
Pattinson turned 40 ahead of filming the sequel, and the difference appears to be noticeable when it comes to the action sequences. Batman doesn’t have superpowers, meaning every punch, chase and fight depends on the actor’s physical performance and the stunt work surrounding him.
Despite the challenges, Pattinson doesn’t sound discouraged. Quite the opposite. He described the experience as “really fun” and praised the sequel’s cast, while acknowledging that making the film is essentially a marathon.
“It’s good. I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot. I’m literally like, ‘Goddamn, this is significantly harder than it used to be.’ But it’s really fun. And I think the movie’s going to be pretty great. It’s got a really, really fun cast, but it’s a marathon.”
That attitude is encouraging, especially considering how much pressure surrounds the sequel. ‘The Batman’ became a major success by giving audiences a darker, detective-focused version of Bruce Wayne. Naturally, expectations for the follow-up are enormous.
The Long Wait for ‘The Batman 2’ Continues
Matt Reeves is returning to direct and co-write the sequel, with Pattinson joined by a new group of cast members, including Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan in undisclosed roles. But fans will have to wait considerably longer before seeing the finished movie.
The sequel was originally scheduled for October 2026, before being pushed to October 2027 and then delayed again to February 18, 2028. That means the wait between the first movie and its sequel will stretch to nearly six years.
That sounds painful for fans, but there may be a silver lining. The additional time is reportedly giving Reeves more room for post-production. After waiting this long, audiences probably don’t want ‘The Batman: Part II’ rushed. If Pattinson is already calling the production a marathon, perhaps Gotham’s next chapter really is worth taking its time.
