Depp was sacked from the Fantastic Beasts franchise after he lost his libel action against the UK magazine, The Sun, for calling him a “wife beater”. As a result of this controversy, Mads Mikkelsen replaced Depp as Grindelwald. Amber Heard has countersued his ex-husband, and now faces a liability of more than $10 million after the jury favored Johnny Depp in their decision.

The defamation lawsuit often brought up Amber Heard’s role as Mera in the Aquaman series. According to Johnny Depp’s crew, Heard was given the lead part because of his influence. It was also reported that she almost lost her role as Mera because of her strained relationship with her co-star, Jason Momoa. According to some sources, Amber’s role has been significantly reduced in the upcoming ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ due to fear of people boycotting the film.
