The world is a place of ultimate miracles! They say cinema reflects society, but there have been situations created the other way around. A man named Brian N. Mwenda was arrested after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) accused him of practicing law without formal education or a degree. Does it sound familiar? Yes, it is the same plot line as the legal drama ‘Suits’, where Mike Ross practices law under Harvey Specter’s chamber without a degree.
‘Suits’, which ran for a good nine seasons, explored the relationship between Harvey Specter and his mentee, Mike Ross. Harvey hires Ross due to the vast legal knowledge he possesses. A similar situation happened in Kenya without Harvey Specter, where a man practiced law without any degree and won 26 cases. Now, the imposter has been arrested.

Fake Lawyer Stole The Identity Of Brian Mwenda Ntwiga
A ‘Suits’ plotline in real life! A man allegedly named Brian Mwenda Njagi was arrested after LSK drew the attention of the public to a fake lawyer practicing in Kenya. Brian stole the identity of a real lawyer named Brian Mwenda Ntwiga and solved 26 court cases.
It was first brought to people’s attention by the Nairobi branch of LSK. The official X handle asked everyone to beware of Brian, who is not an “Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, from the society’s records, neither is he a member of the Branch.”
On October 12, 2023, the Law Society of Kenya, in their statement, said that Brian Mwenda Njagi unlawfully accessed the LSK portal, got hold of an identity similar to his name, and tampered with details like his email address and photograph.

The Imposter Gains Support Despite Identity Theft
The Law Society of Kenya got hold of the situation when Brian Ntwiga informed them that he was unable to access the portal due to a change in name, email address, and other details in August 2023.
The reason that it took so long to catch the imposter was that the real Brian did not have a legal practicing certificate, as he had been employed at the Office of the Attorney General since his admission.
However, like ‘Suits’, Brian Njagi has got support from the Kenyan Law Society. Francis Atwoli, the Secretary-General of Kenya’s Central Organization of Trade Unions, endorses a fair examination of Njagi to test his “knowledge, skills, and competencies in the field of law” after successfully representing clients.
We hope that after the prison sentence, Brian will gain a license and conduct his practice legally, just like Mike Ross!
