Singer John Mayer has finally spilled the beans about his approach towards marriage and love. Though he is infamous for being a playboy, Mayer’s thoughts on marriage are exactly the opposite of what a playboy would have. The artist is loved for his music but his personal life is not his best suit.
However, the singer has now indicated that he is ready to tie the knot, and is in fact, looking forward to getting a a partner. Mayer was speaking during an exclusive interview on Kelly Rizzo’s ‘Comfort Food‘ podcast when he busted a presumption about him that many of his fans believe to be true.
John Mayer Says He Has A “Kink” For Reliability
John Mayer said that though many of his fans think that he might not be into marriage, that is not what his approach towards it is. “People don’t think I want to be married. I absolutely want to be married.
Mayer has had chart-topping hits in the past few years, but his romantic life has not been the best. “You know the secret, which is that I’m actually fairly well-adjusted.” He continued, “And I so badly want to get married if only for my wife to just know in her heart, like, ‘John will know what to do.’”
The ‘Gravity‘ singer said that he has the allure of being a relied-upon partner. ‘That level of being relied on is the hottest thing in the world.”
He said his ideal future wife would say, “‘If my husband was here, he would know what to do. Call John. Call my husband.’ You’re a full grown-up when this is your romantic fantasy. You’re a fully-fledged grown-up.”
In response to Mayer’s musings, Rizzo said, “Your kink is that you want someone to be like, ‘John’s got a guy,'” to which Mayer chuckled and accepted the term. “Reliance kink? Oh my God. Reliability kink? YES,” he said.
Mayer has dated several people including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Cameron Diaz, in the past but has not been able to settle down with any of them. Though he has faced a lot of external pressure about settling down from his fans, he has not succumbed to it.

John Mayer Opens Up About His Changed Approach Towards Dating
The singer has addressed the issue in the past during a concert rant in March 2022. Responding to fan queries, Mayer said, “’When are you gonna find someone? You don’t want to have kids, do you?’ What the f–k have I done in my life to communicate that I don’t want to have kids? … What are you talking about?” he told to the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Mayer said at the time that he was “doing fine” without a spouse because “the left side of [his] bed is just a row of pillows.” He was unfazed, as he stood his ground. “I sleep next to a row of pillows…But what I mean is, that stack of pillows doesn’t resent or hate me or bring me down.”
While Mayer may not be dating prolifically these days, he told the fans that he is ready to put his best foot forward. “I’m having a good time. I will meet somebody,” the singer said. “And when I do, it will be additive and awesome and great, but until then, I’m going to be just fine.”
Later the same year, Mayer clarified that though he is open to finding the right one, he doesn’t “date that much.” He was speaking on an episode of the ‘Call Her Daddy‘ podcast when he opened up about his approach towards dating.
“Dating is no longer a codified activity for me, it doesn’t exist in a kind of … it’s not patterned anymore,” the singer explained in the December 2022 episode. “I quit drinking like six years ago. So I don’t have the liquid courage. I just have dry courage,” he added.
