Taylor Lautner Says Taylor Swift Initiated The Break Up
Recently, on Alex Cooper’s podcast, ‘Call Her Daddy’, Taylor Lautner arrived with his wife, Taylor Dome. During the podcast episode, Lautner did not miss the chance to talk about his relationship with Taylor Swift, which ended, and how the two have become friends over the period after the breakup.
Taylor Swift met Taylor Lautner on the sets of their film ‘Valentine’s Day’ in 2009. Since then, rumors about their relationship have started surfacing, making Taylor address them during her SNL monologue in November 2009. However, shortly after that, in December 2009, the two parted ways. In her 2010 album ‘Speak Now’, the song ‘Back to December’ alludes to their relationship.
On the podcast, Alex Cooper asked Taylor Lautner whether it was Taylor Swift who decided to end the relationship. To this, Taylor said, “Yes, absolutely. I’m thinking back on exactly what happened. But no, yeah, she did.”

Taylor Swift is friends with few to none of her ex-boyfriends. She met Harry Styles during the Grammys, and they were civil towards each other. However, Taylor Lautner is the only ex she is genuinely good friends with. In July 2023, Taylor called Lautner and his wife on stage during the Kansas City concert of the ‘Eras Tour’. He was featured in the ‘I Can See You’ video from the vault track of the re-release of ‘Speak Now’.
On the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, Taylor Lautner talked about how they were not in touch to become good friends. Talking about forgiving and moving on, Taylor said, “I think when you respect somebody for who they are, like in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive and continue that love in a different way.”
Taylor Lautner confessed that rekindling friendship with Taylor Swift has been one of the greater things that has happened to him in the recent past. Taylor continued, “We stayed friendly, we would see each other now and then. But we then did fall out of touch and didn’t talk for a while.” Lautner, however, always had respect for the singer before anything else.
The ‘Twilight’ actor said, “Honestly I would say one of the greater things to happen in my life over the last year is the rekindling of our friendship.”
