Zachary Levi, known for his role in ‘Shazam!‘, recently voiced his perspective on the challenges conservative actors face in Hollywood. The actor took to Instagram to share his thoughts after a heated exchange with Whoopi Goldberg.
Goldberg had previously commented that Hollywood has “always been a very right-leaning town.” In response, Levi argued that Hollywood is overwhelmingly liberal, noting the fearsome conservative actors experience about expressing their support for Donald Trump.
Zachary Levi Speaks Out On Hollywood’s Political Divide
Zachary Levi’s remarks come on the heels of his appearance at a rally in Michigan, where he officially endorsed Donald Trump for president. Previously a supporter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Levi shifted his support to Trump after Kennedy exited the race.
Moreover, the actor now claims his support for Trump could be considered “career suicide” in an industry that he says is dominated by liberal views. “You really have to be at a certain level of your career [now] to really get away with being an outspoken Republican in Hollywood,” he stated.
Additionally, he claimed that a lot of people in Hollywood are terrified of the repercussions of openly supporting Trump or conservative views. He claimed that numerous industry colleagues have messaged him expressing fears of going public with their views. “That’s why you don’t see them,” Levi stated, adding, “That’s why they’re not very prevalent or prominent. They know there’s ramifications for this kind of stuff.”
Zachary Levi Calls Out The Imbalanced Representation Of Political Beliefs In Hollywood
According to Zachary Levi, the current state of Hollywood does not allow for a balanced representation of political beliefs. He believes that most conservative actors remain silent to avoid risking their careers. “Of the thousands of actors in Hollywood, that you could only name two actually speaks to that,” Levi pointed out in response to Goldberg’s mention of Voight and Quaid.

Additionally, he suggested that the reluctance of conservative actors to speak openly reflects a broader issue of limited tolerance for diverse political perspectives. Levi also highlighted the impact of recent crises, including the pandemic and ongoing industry strikes.
“Our industry is going to be… gonzo,” he warned. “It already is.” In his video message, Levi encouraged conservative actors to weigh their decisions carefully. “It’s now or never,” Levi urged his conservative peers, saying he understands if they still feel hesitant to speak out. He encourages them to make a choice based on their beliefs and not on their fear.
