“I’d Be Excited”: Taron Egerton Talks About Playing Wolverine
After portraying Sir Elton John, Taron Egerton admitted he would be a bit “apprehensive” if given a chance to play the X-Men character. For the promotion of his Apple TV+ series ‘Black Bird’, he was speaking with the New York Times. Egerton spilled the big news that he met with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige with the hope to follow in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
Egerton told the publication, “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.” The actor went on to say, “But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
This Is Surely Not The First Time For The ‘Rocketman’ Actor
After Hugh Jackman left the role of Wolverine, some fans added the name of Taron Egerton to the list of Wolverine aspirants. This is surely not the first time that the actor is talking about his wish to essay the role. In 2019, he told GQ that he heard the rumor of some Marvel fans’ hopes that he’ should be cast as Wolverine. “That anyone thinks I would be good for the part is really flattering,” Egerton said back then. “I love Marvel, but it’s just fan stuff. There is no grounding for those rumors.”
On the other hand, in the recent Times interview, Egerton admitted that he didn’t have the right motives for his roles in the 2018 films ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Billionaire Boys Club’. “I ignored my instincts on those two jobs because I was offered quite a lot of money to do them. And that’s just fatal. You can’t pick roles that way,” he said.
