    ‘The Conjuring’ Universe: All Upcoming And Canceled Projects

    The Conjuring‘ franchise is currently one of the most profitable ones in the movie business. The latest installment, ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’, was released in June 2021. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film was a box-office success. The producers are still not stopping themselves from bringing new projects as the franchise has grossed around $1 billion around the world.

    While the audiences are eagerly waiting for ‘The Conjuring 4’, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have already begun planning new projects in the franchise that will introduce some new supernatural beings. Apart from that, a few projects have also been canceled. So let’s check what has been going on so far.

    ‘The Conjuring’ Universe Updates

    The Nun 2

    Released in 2018, ‘The Nun’ was one of the most highly anticipated films and although it received negative reviews, it grossed more than $300 million at the box office. Discussions of a sequel began the same year and it was confirmed to have entered development by 2019.

    Taissa Farmiga revealed in 2022 that Warner Bros. was in discussions with her to reprise her role as Sister Irene. She added that the film was delayed due to the pandemic restrictions. Michael Chaves was confirmed to be the director and Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper were hired as the writers.

    ‘The Nun 2’ is scheduled to release on September 8, 2023. Taissa Farmiga will return as Sister Irene alongside Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, Katelyn Rose Downey, Bonnie Aarons, and Jonas Bloquet playing other important roles.

    ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2019. The producers have not greenlit a fourth film so far but because the doll is possessed by an evil spirit, there are various places where a story could be explored. Coming to the storyline, the doll could leave the Warrens museum once again and create problems for someone else.

    The Conjuring 4

    Ed and Lorraine Warren are two names that gained a lot of fame for investigating different cases linked to the supernatural. So the producers can continue bringing new films where we can witness the ghost hunters taking down another demon and saving a family from danger.

    ‘The Conjuring 4’ has been already confirmed and it can explore cases like the Smurl haunting or the Snedeker house. The makers are currently silent regarding the details related to the casting and the storyline but Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are confirmed to return as Ed and Lorraine Warren.

    ‘Devil Made Me Do’ It Spin-Off Canceled

    When ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ was released, it was planned to start a new spin-off with a demon that was removed from the film. The writers also introduced the character in the script and it was derived from the Devil Made Me Do It case. However, the idea was canceled as director Michael Chaves considered it too risky and he disclosed that scenes of David Osborne’s demon were also removed from the film in the final cut.

    ‘The Crooked Man’ Canceled

    Apart from the Nun, there was another character in ‘The Conjuring 2’ who was able to strike fear among the audience. The Crooked Man came to life from a music box and James Wan was planning for a dark fairytale story related to the character but the film has been canceled in 2022. Peter Safran revealed at the time that ‘The Nun 2’ was being prioritized and it seems like there were not enough story ideas for a proper debut of the character in the franchise.
