    The Oscar Nominations: Power of the Dog and Dune Leading the List

    The nominations for this year’s Oscar Awards are out. This will be the 94th edition of the awards. The nominations were announced on Tuesday. And the winners are going to be announced on March 27. Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog is leading the list while Denis Villeneuve’s Dune follows close behind.

    Oscar Nominations for 2022 Edition

    Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross announced the nominations via a live-stream. This year’s nominations feature some exciting names like Andrew Garfield for Tick Tick…Boom! and Kristen Stewart for Spencer. Moreover, other surprising factors include nominations of Bhutanese film, Lunana: A Yak in The Classroom in the Best International Film category.

    Following a similar pattern to this year’s BAFTAs nomination, the leading contenders for the Academy Awards are The Power of the Dog and Dune. The order, however, is reversed with Campion’s film scoring 12 nominations and Dune following with a total of 10. Campion’s this year’s nomination makes her the first woman to be nominated more than once in the Best Director category. The first one was for directing “The Piano”.

    Notable Names In The Nominations List

    The Power of The Dog has scored a nomination in every main category like Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst, and Best Director for Jane Campion. Dune, however, lost on the nominations in the actors and Director category. Hans Zimmer, however, earned one for his original score featured in the movie.

    Other nominees include names like Andrew Garfield in the Best Actor category for Tick, Tick…Boom!, Kristen Stewart for playing Princess Diana in Spencer. While Steven Spielberg is nominated in the Best Director category for West Side Story. Additionally, other notable names include films like Don’t Look Up, Kenneth Branaugh’s Belfast, and Licorice Pizza.

    With West Side Story, Steven Spielberg has made history. In addition, this is his 11th nomination for the Best Film category at the Academy Awards. Moreover, actor Denzel Washington has extended his reign at the awards. He has set a record for being the most nominated black actor. This year, he scored his 10th nomination for the Best Actor for his role in the film, The Tragedy of Macbeth.
