Director James Cameron is really not in favor of the lack of maturity displayed by the DC-Marvel superheroes. The 62-year-old filmmaker had the press tour of his new movie, ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water‘ kicked off with an interview in The New York Times. Cameron was joined by stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver.
The long-awaited sequel of the Award-winning movie ‘Avatar‘ has a more improved character depiction with so much thought put into it by the director himself. Cameron compared his characters to the superheroes from the Marvel and DC franchise. And he pointed out how his Avatar characters have changed through the course of the film while the superheroes still stick to their immature selves.

James Cameron On DC And Marvel Characters
As the interview started, Cameron drifted on to talk about how his main two characters have developed over the 15 years from their time in the prequel. Zoe and Sam are parents in the upcoming movie and this mere factor has changed the whole outlook of these two characters. The director points to the fact that the characters have matured and that their life is more than just survival.
Here Cameron pointed out the DC-Marvel superheroes and their lack of maturity. “When I look at these big, spectacular films — I’m looking at you, Marvel, and DC — it doesn’t matter how old the characters are, they all act like they’re in college. They have relationships, but they really don’t. They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don’t experience it, and I think that’s not the way to make movies.”

Majority Of The Scenes Were Shot Underwater
One of the interesting facts about ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water‘ is that the movie was shot for a majority in large water tanks. The cast was trained to hold their breath for minutes on end. Many movies like ‘Aquaman‘ and upcoming movies like ‘The Little Mermaid‘ had taken a CGI approach than shooting in actual water. Cameron had his own reasons to shoot in actual water. “Oh, I don’t know, maybe that it looks good? Come on! You want it to look like the people are underwater, so they need to be underwater,” Cameron answered The Times. With all the effort and input, the much-awaited movie opens in theatres nationwide on December 16.
