Armas portrays Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming film ‘Blonde.’ It is set to release on September 28 on Netflix after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

In an interview with the French magazine L’Officiel, the ‘Knives Out‘ actress slammed the NC-17 rating given to the film. “I didn’t understand why that happened“, she said.

The actress further said, “I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content thanBlonde.'”

But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one.”

Blonde‘ received the rare adults-only rating for “some sexual content” by the Motion Picture Association in March this year.

Armas is seen using a different accent in the trailer of ‘Blonde‘. She revealed that she worked on her accent for over a year with a dialect coach.

It took me nine months of dialect coaching, and practicing and some ADR sessions [to get the accent right]. It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried”, she said.

Ana had earlier talked about how important was it for her to play Monroe, being a Cuban. “Playing Marilyn was groundbreaking. A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe. I wanted it so badly. You see that famous photo of her and she is smiling in the moment, but that’s just a slice of what she was really going through at the time.”

While some people have criticized her casting and the accent, Monroe’s estate has extended their support for the film.
