Tiffany Haddish has made a name for herself in the comedy field. She has starred in the sitcom ‘The Carmichael Show’ and won an Emmy Award for hosting a Saturday Night Live episode in 2017. Haddish has also won the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album, the second African-American woman to win it.
But lately, the 42-year-old actress has had a run-in with controversies. She has responded to the child sexual abuse lawsuit slapped on her. It is related to her ‘Through a Pedophile’s Eyes’ sketch that she did a while back. So let’s try and find out what was the event that led to the lawsuit.
The Child Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Against Tiffany Haddish
Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish’s name has been associated with a child sexual abuse lawsuit that was filed last week.
According to a Variety report, the lawsuit was filed by an anonymous woman. It alleges that Haddish and fellow comedian Aries Spears exploited Jane Doe, now 22, and her brother John Doe, now 14, in two comedy sketches filmed when they were children.
In the sketch titled ‘Through a Pedophile’s Eyes‘, Spears’ character plays a pedophile lusting after John Doe, who was 7 years old at the time. Haddish plays his mother, who leaves him with the man. Reports state, “John [Doe] spends most of the video clad only in his underwear as Spears’ character leers at him through two holes cut into a newspaper he pretends to read.”
The camera zooms in suggestively on the boy’s buttocks and crotch area while he plays during the sketch. Spears sprays baby oil on his back and massages it into his shoulders. There are also phallic masturbation suggestions in the sketch.
Tiffany Haddish Responds To The Lawsuit
Tiffany has now responded to the lawsuit via social media. “I know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. I’m right there with you,” she wrote.
“Unfortunately because there is an ongoing legal case, there’s very little that I can say right now. But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasn’t funny at all — and I deeply regret having agreed to act in it.”
The comedian concluded, “I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.”
The video was originally published on Funny or Die but was removed in 2018. Her attorney, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement that the plaintiff’s mother, Trizah Morris, has “been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years.”
