Rahem Brown, also popularly known in the world of hip-hop as Tame One, died on 5 November 2022. His mother Darlene Brown Harris broke the news of the rapper’s demise on Facebook on 6 November 2022. She also revealed the cause of death and continued writing that she wouldn’t be active on the media platforms for a while. The artist was fifty-two years old.
The Artifacts rapper’s death was grieved by numerous rappers and hip-hop musicians. Rapper Rah Digga took to Instagram to pay his tributes to the deceased. “I usually don’t race to the internet to post news like this when I’m in the middle of feeling it…but we gonna give this Jersey legend his muthafuckin flowers!!”, read the rapper’s caption. Another fellow rapper, Chino XL, wished for Tame to rest in poetry and paint. So, what happened to Tame One?

Tame One: In Remembrance
Tame was popular for his underground rap music accompanied by his love for graffiti. He released his album ‘Between A Rock And Hard Place’ alongside El Da Sensei which celebrated his passion for graffiti. His singles included ‘Da Muzik’, ‘When Rappers Attack’, ‘Crazee’ with two more singles and ten solo albums.
El Da Sensei, in an emotional email to Rolling Stones, wrote, “My best memories of Tame have to be recording the very first album Between A Rock & A Hard Place. We knew exactly what we wanted to do but was overly surprised at the outcome not knowing we’d be creating classics that would stand the test of time. We made records together that our fans can relate to because they’re like us. We made songs for the stage and I loved that part too. I will miss my brother Tame. He is now with DJ Kaos making music in the clouds.”
Tame and Sensei came together to form the hip-hop group Artifacts which later added DJ Kaos. The group released numerous albums like ‘That’s Them’ and ‘No Expiration Date’. In 2003, the duo of Tame and rapper Cage released their only album ‘Waterworld’ under the group name Leak Bros. Later in 2003, Tame collaborated with the American hip-hop group, The Weatherman and released ‘The Conspiracy’.

How Did The Rapper Die?
In addition to breaking the news of his demise, Darlene, Tame’s mother, also revealed the cause of his death. She wrote on Facebook that he died of heart failure. His mother revealed that Tame took six medications prescribed by his hospital and smoked the narcotic, Cannabis. His heart gave out on the combination of these substances.
The rapper’s demise was a huge blow to the musical world of hip-hop. Many of his fellow artists paid their respect. Record producer Just Blaze wrote on his Instagram post that Tame and Sensei ” were the first 2 signed artists to ever rhyme on something of mine back in the Pipeline nightclub days in Newark.”
