Why ‘Black Adam’ Is The Most Important Film For Dwayne Johnson?

The DCEU has braced itself to revitalize the franchise with the anti-hero drama, ‘Black Adam‘. For a long time, DC and Dwayne Johnson have been promoting the film. In 2014, Rock revealed why he wanted to play Black Adam: “One of the things I always loved and admired about Black Adam was, number one, he was an antihero.”

Now, the film is inching closer to its release date and the promotion is in full swing. After promotional pictures piqued the audience’s interest, Dwayne Johnson touted the film as the most important in his life on Jimmy Fallon’s show.

Johnson has joined the DCEU introducing the menacing anti-hero. The character has its origin in 1945 DC Comics. He gains Shazam’s power which corrupts him. In the comics, he is Teth-Adam who aids Hawkman aka Prince Khufu to create a weapon for destruction.

Recently, he appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’ During the show, he explained his character. “Black Adam has all the powers that Superman has but Superman won’t kill because he has a code of honor and a code of ethics that we appreciate and love….but he will kill you.”

Recently, he was booed on the stage at Comic-Con when he was asked who would win between his character and Superman. For the role, he was buffed up and gave it all to the character. The film has been in production for decades. He said “I got one shot with Black Adam. It’s the most important movie of my career and I pushed all chips in and I worked my a** off.”

The actor has been preparing for too long for the role. The film is also important for DCEU for its revamping. DC and Warner Bros. planned to have the character in 2019s ‘Shazam.’ But, its protagonist wanted the film to be standalone. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he explained why he wanted so. He said, “When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie.” Johnson did not want to do “disservice” by having the character with Shazam.

He continued, “When I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘we can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.”

He added, “It would’ve been fine for Shazam having two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for Black Adam.”
