Ever since Elon Musk finalized the $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, he has been making sweeping changes in the company. The company recently fired nearly half of its employees in an order to cut costs. He has also stirred headlines after announcing a new subscription plan.
The plan is to charge $8 monthly from users who want to get a blue tick verified batch. This move has been widely criticized by politicians and celebrities. Now, the report state that Twitter has plans to implement all this right after election day. Let’s find out more about this.
Twitter Delays The Verification Plan
Musk’s plan to charge everyone $8 a month for the blue tick verification hasn’t been well received. Many celebs and politicians like Stephen King and AOC have criticized it.
Now, according to The New York Times, Twitter has delayed plans until after the midterm elections Tuesday. They made the decision the day after its official announcement of the monthly fee model.
“Power to the people,” the company’s original announcement said. “Your account will get a blue check mark, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow.”
Twitter first introduced verified accounts in 2009 with the blue tick mark serving as a visual signifier to show that significant users, such as celebrities, politicians, etc are authentic, not fake accounts.

Musk Confirms Twitter Was Previously Selling Its Verification Badge
There were allegations that some Twitter employees were giving away blue ticks to people over a price. A user named @WSBChairman wrote: “Twitter employees were selling verification for upwards of $15,000. For certain accounts, mine included, they would refuse to verify you through the standard application and then privately offer to verify you for $$ behind the scenes.”
In response, Musk wrote, “Yup“, confirming the allegations. Despite all the criticism piling up over his new subscription plan, the South African billionaire is adamant to execute it.
“Trash me all day, but it’ll cost $8,” Musk tweeted on Saturday morning, indicating that he won’t change his mind. The move is mostly seen as a desperate attempt to churn out money from the micro-blogging site.
