Jeff Bezos Sued By His Former Housekeeper
Bezos is no stranger to controversies and there’s a new feather to his cap. A woman, who worked as his housekeeper is suing the Amazon founder and companies that manage his properties.
According to a CNBC report, Mercedes Wedaa has claimed she endured “unsafe and unhealthy work conditions” and was subject to racial discrimination by other staff.
In 2019, she was hired by Bezos’ staff to help maintain his property in the Seattle area. Wedaa and other housekeeping staff regularly worked between 10 to 14 hours a day and were denied adequate meal or rest breaks.
“For about 18 months, in order to use a bathroom…housekeepers were forced to climb out the laundry room window to the outside,” the lawsuit claims.

Housekeeper Alleges She Was Poorly Treated
Wedaa filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in King County Superior Court in Seattle. In the lawsuit, she claimed there was no designated break room or rest area, and no easily accessible bathroom.
All the housekeepers were barred from using a toilet in a nearby security room. This resulted in Wedaa and other housekeepers frequently developing urinary tract infections because they “had to spend large parts of their day unable to use the toilet.”
Housekeeping staff also was allegedly prohibited from entering the residence when the Bezos family was there unless they were cleaning.
Wedaa and other Hispanic cleaning staff were treated badly by Household managers while they were “respectful and polite” to Bezos’ white groundskeepers and maintenance staff, the complaint says.
