Lucasfilms And Disney Has Cancelled ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2
‘The Acolyte‘ was created by Leslye Headland to be a multiple-season show. In interviews, she has hinted at narrative threads left unfinished at the end of Season One that could further be explored.
According to Deadline, Disney has decided to put down this series due to its poor performance. ‘Acolyte’ started off great with 4.8 million views on its first day of release and became this year’s Disney+’s biggest premier. However, the show gradually started losing viewership.
The storyline of season 1 was flawed and upset the hardcore ‘Star Wars’ fans. Fans also accused Headland of making the series “woke” because she’s queer. All these factors contributed to the massive review bombing of the show.
While speaking to various media outlets, Headland stated that conversations around a potential Season Two were ongoing with Disney+. But it seems like these conversations went nowhere.

Reception Of ‘The Acolyte’ By ‘Star Wars’ Fans
Reception for the first season was very inconsistent. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics have given it an 80% rating compared to a devastating 14% from audiences. Some fans have criticized aspects like the pacing and character development.
Fans observed multiple loopholes in the story which was quite off-putting for the fans. Since ‘The Acolyte’ is based 100 years prior to the events of the ‘Phantom Menace,’ Siths interacting with Jedi in the show is contradictory. In ‘Phantom Menace,’ Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi claimed that Siths had been extinct for centuries. But him knowing about one in ‘The Acolyte’ breaks the canon.
Headland presented a show with much diversity both on-screen and off-screen. There were many species in the show that were quite unique for the series. However, one dialogue by Amandla Stenberg, “Is he, or they, with us?” made quite waves of negative reviews for the show. It seemed like the diversity of alien species might be tolerable but none exists in reality.
It was not the perfect show, however, it had the potential to be one of the beloved ‘Star Wars’ projects outside the Skywalker saga. The concept was quite unique but audience feedback was not in ur of the show and thus it met its end.
