Twitter’s journey from its 2.0 version to a completely revamped X has not been an easy one! But Elon Musk has been making efforts to keep the platform afloat. Since he bought the microblogging platform, Musk has faced hurdles ranging from plummeting revenue to mass layoffs to several lawsuits. However, the undeterred billionaire has devised many ways to generate revenue from the near-failing X.
Elon Musk introduced an $8 monthly subscription to Twitter Blue. After a hiccup, he stalled the process and then, after some tweaks, reintroduced it. He also made policy changes to get money from the smallest channel possible. But since he acquired Twitter, aka X, he has been advocating for creating a space for creators on the platform. So he introduced a revenue-sharing system where a handful of creators who fulfill the criteria will be able to monetize. However, the ex-CEO is faltering on the promise made.

As per this program, the creators have to fulfill the criteria to be eligible to be beneficiaries of it. The criteria to be eligible for the ad revenue sharing were to have a Twitter Blue subscription with at least 15 million organic impressions on all the posts together within three months. The user must have 500 followers.

However, X has failed to make the payments that they promised would be credited in the July 31st week. They cited the fact that the volume of beneficiaries has “exceeded expectations.” Elon Musk addressed the failure to roll out payments, writing, “Interest in ad rev share by content creators has far exceeded our expectations, so will take a few more days to process. Musk called it a “secret tax” for the users, which Apple uses to pay its app reviewers, who prevent any fraud or discrepancies. However, Tim Cook and Elon Musk reconciled after the latter met with the Apple CEO.

However, recently, Elon Musk expressed a desire to talk to Tim Cook about exempting the creators from the excessive 30% tax commission. He even tweaked their policy so that they would incur 10% after 12 months. But now, they will not do so until the payout exceeds $100,000.
He wrote, “Apple does take 30%, but I will speak with @tim_cook and see if that can be adjusted to be just 30% of what X keeps in order to maximize what creators receive.”
