The Twitter takeover is taking us back in time. It is not nice! Since Elon Musk took charge of the platform, there has been an upsurge in the degradation of the decorum that was already in shambles! He has been implementing many radical decisions since the acquisitions. The try-and-error formula is proving fatal for the work environment at the company as well as for the users.
The Tesla owner fired all of his top-tier executives and became the CEO of the company. He then brought the $7.99 subscriptions to give the badge of a Twitter blue verification which turned out to be chaotic. Now, the CEO is on a spree to sack employees at the platform including experienced engineers to power the process of revamping, ironically. In another radical and sudden move, he sent an email to the employees as an ultimatum.

Elon Musk Asks The Twitter Employees To Work “Hardcore” Or Leave
Within seven days of the acquisition of the platform for $44 billion, Musk took a sudden step to sack half of its 7,500 global workforce. The reason was due to heavy losses incurred daily. After firing the employees, he sacked a large number of contractors without any information given to the employees about it. When Musk was in the process of buying Twitter, he wanted to make “free speech” inevitable on Twitter. The South African billionaire sacked two engineers for criticizing his decisions on Twitter.
Now, after all the chaos that is ensuing on the platform and behind the scenes, he issued an email to all the employees giving an ultimatum. CNBC retrieved the email from the employees which warned them that either they work hardcore or “receive three months of severance” and leave. He explained getting hardcore “will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”
He also added that Twitter is a software company, so it will be more engineering-driven for revamping it. The SpaceX owner asked the employees to oblige to this by clicking on a link with a deadline. If any employee fails to do so, they will be provided with “three months of severance” meaning more expulsions. The deadline is 5 PM ET on Thursday.

Not The First Time He Promoted A Toxic Hustle Culture
After completing the deal with Twitter post the legal battles concerning his buy, he started implementing amendments to the work culture. In the new email, he has put the engineers at the forefront as they are the important teams during this revamp. But, the recent episodes do not reflect it. The billionaire fired employees, especially engineers for expressing their discontent about some of the decisions.
Going back to November 1st, 2022, he asked some of his engineers to work for 12 hours a day for the entire week to speed up the process of creating “Twitter 2.0”. The managers have asked their employees to work overtime to meet the unrealistic deadlines of Elon Musk.
As per a report, “Managers at Twitter have instructed some employees to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, to hit Musk’s aggressive deadlines, according to internal communications.” But, there is a condition. The employees have to work extra hours without asking for “overtime pay or comp time, or about job security”.
