Elon Musk’s Neuralink Clears FDA Approval For In-Human Clinic Studies

It’s never easy to differentiate a vision from a delusion of grandeur. All billionaires and entrepreneurs have them from time to time. Many thought the same of Elon Musk when he announced that Neuaralink implants would cure diseases out of bounds for current medical science.

Once again, Elon Musk has emerged as a winner. On Thursday, Neuaralink made the official announcement of finally getting FDA approval to conduct in-human clinical trials. Soon, people with sight and cardiovascular issues will have a second lease on life.

Another success for team Elon Musk. He announced on Thursday that Neuaralink has successfully passed the FDA regulation to conduct clinical studies on human subjects. Neuaralink has been working closely with the regulatory agency, hoping to bring its groundbreaking technology to a larger populace. Previously, Neuaralink tested its prototypes on a group of monkeys. Because of the neural implants, the monkeys could play video games and do basic functions like clicking the cursor.

And now, the evolution of Neuaralink enters a new phase which they mentioned in their tweet, “We are excited to share that we have received the FDA’s approval to launch our first-in-human clinical study! This is the result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA and represents an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people. Recruitment is not yet open for our clinical trial. We’ll announce more information on this soon!”

During a show-and-tell event in December last year, Elon Musk surprised the audience by saying he plans on having a Neuaralink chip implant. The billionaire, who puts his money where his mouth is, said the technology, with careful consideration, will be ready in the next six months. It’s not the first time he has made such ambiguous claims of success, but the FDA approval is a testament to the fact Musk is headed in the right direction.

Neuaralink is looking to revolutionize modern medicine with its implants. Founded in 2016, the tech firm aims to help blind people regain their sight and people with damaged spinal cords regain their bodily functions. As always, Elon Musk is creating artificial intelligence that’s not an intellectual threat while also breaking the barrier of human limitations.
