The one thing the former Royals love more than drama is vendetta. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex are the latest names to depart from Spotify’s popular podcast platform.
On Thursday, both parties confirmed their split in a joint statement, which ended the couple’s lucrative deal. The joint statement read, “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together”. And now Bill Simmons slams Prince Harry and Meghan after their sudden Spotify fallout.
No One Hates Prince Harry And Meghan More Than Bill Simmons
Bill Simmon is Spotify’s head of global sports content, who sold his company The Ringer to Spotify. However, he did hold his tongue back about the former royal couple’s exit from the platform. On a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons called Harry and Meghan “f—ing grifters” and alluded to an incident he had with Harry on Zoon while they were brainstorming new podcast ideas.
Bill Simmons comments on the former royal couple saying, “The f—ing grifters. That’s the podcast we shoulda launched with them. I gotta get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories”.
Last January Bill Simmons blasted Prince Harry saying it was embarrassing to be affiliated with the same company as his. According to a Big Lead post, Simmons said, “shoot this guy to the sun. He just whines about sh-t and keeps giving interviews. Who gives a sh-t? Who cares about your life? You weren’t even the favorite son. … You live in f-cking Montecito and you just sell documentaries and podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you talk about the royal family and you just complain about them”.

The Deal Between Spotify And The Former Royals
In 2020, Harry and Meghan initially signed a deal with Spotify. The deal was presented as a multiyear partnership with Spotify with the intention to create podcasts and show that would tell stories through diverse voices and perspective. The couple produced on podcast calling with Archetypes, hosted by Meghan. Archetypes debuted in August 2022 with only 12 episodes.
As the podcast explored the progress of women, it invited guests like Mindy Kaling, Serena Williams, Trevor Noah, and Mariah Carey. Due to a lack of responses, the podcast did not go through a second-season renewal. However, Spotify called their partnership after the $20 million paid to them which only yielded one season of a Meghan Markle podcast that failed to reach the target audience.
