Earlier, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to step back from their duties, they wanted to be a part of the family. They wanted to move to the USA but still wanted to be a part of the family. However, the late Queen Elizabeth II presented them with two options—either “all in, no change” or “all out”.

They lost every immunity and privilege including royal security when they decided that they wanted an all out. What they had was the titles and their house in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage.

It is a special place for the couple. The Frogmore Cottage is where Harry and Meghan hosted their wedding reception. After the wedding, they were living in the Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. When Meghan got pregnant, they wanted a bigger space to live in. The only option at Kensington was Apartment I, which would have cost $4.8 million for reparations. So, the late Queen Elizabeth II suggested that they move to Frogmore Cottage.

The sprawling property at Windsor Castle has a very rich history, design, and architecture. King Henry VIII acquired the property and the purchase was completed at the end of the 18th Century. Queen Charlotte shifted in the palace with her daughters. Architectural Digest wrote an article in the ’90s. In the article, the author mentioned Charlotte’s quote where she said, “I mean this place to furnish me with fresh amusements every day”.

The property is meant for rejuvenation purposes. Queen Victoria also shifted here on this property. She and Prince Albert wanted them to be buried together at the Cottage breaking royal traditions. So, when Prince passed away in 1861, Ludwig Grüner and A.J. Humbert created an Italianate Royal mausoleum at the property. In 1901, after Queen Victoria’s death, the remnants of the queen were buried with Prince Albert.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to the Frogmore Cottage before Archie’s birth. The refurbishment of the cottage required $3.05 million. They procured the money from public funds i.e., the Sovereign Grant. However, the couple took care of the interiors and other fixtures.

They made the property into a five-bedroom house and other additions including soundproofing were done. After the two left for the U.S., Princess Eugenie, and Jack Brooksbank came in as the tenants. However, the two now live in Nottingham Cottage.

The house belonged to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, however, it does not anymore. As per The Sun, King Charles III has evicted the couple officially from their U.K. casa. An insider told the outlet, “This surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the UK”. According to Omid Scobie, the author of ‘Finding Freedom’, “It’s news, sources tell me, that has left Harry and Meghan stunned, and at least two members of the family ‘appalled’ “.

Currently, King Charles has ordered budget cuts. He is executing expenses cut from the Duchy of Lancaster’s private funds. The cuts will be applicable to the non-working members of the family. This includes the disgraced Duke of York, Prince Andrew.

As per the cuts, the new monarch will not bear the cost of the personal properties of the family members. Andrew is currently living at the Windsor property situated on 98 acres of land. It is private property for him. So, he has to bear the expenses. As a way out, Charles offered the Frogmore Cottage to Prince Andrew as it belongs to the late Queen Elizabeth II and the expenses will be borne from these private funds. However, Prince Andrew “resisted” the offer.
