The couple has created a rift between them and the family after they stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. They went on to levy grave accusations against several members of the family. In ‘Spare’, he talked about how the relationship with his sister-in-law blossomed and how he discovered a hidden silly side of Middleton in the process of knowing her.
Prince Harry Loved Making Kate Middleton Laugh
After the six-part Netflix docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’, Prince Harry released his most-awaited memoir ‘Spare’ in January. It created a lot of controversy with the confessions and incidents that he wrote about in the book. It mostly contained slandering the royal family, but there were some personal accounts and observations in the memoir. One of them is about Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry had great admiration for Prince William’s then-girlfriend and now-wife, Kate Middleton. He wrote about an instance when she helped him dress for an Out-of-Africa party. William assured him that he would help him dress. Kate Middleton also promised to help.
Harry described his first impression of Kate Middleton. He wrote, “I liked his new girlfriend. She was carefree, sweet, kind. She’d done a gap year in Florence, knew about photography, and art. And clothes. She loved clothes. Her name was Kate.”
The Duke of Sussex made a sweet confession, saying, “I liked seeing Kate laugh. Better yet, I liked making her laugh. And I was quite good at it. My transparently silly side connected with her heavily disguised silly side.”
He added, “Whenever I worried that Kate was going to be the one to take Willy from me, I consoled myself with thoughts of all our future laughing fits together, and I told myself how great everything would be when I had a serious girlfriend who could laugh along with us.”

In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey to chronicle the victim stories during their tenure in the royal family. During the interview, Meghan Markle alleged that one of the members of the royal family was concerned about Archie’s skin color due to his interracial parents.
The Palace released a statement, writing, “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”
A source told Valentine Low, the author of ‘Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown’ that Kate Middleton added the ‘some recollections may vary’ part. The source said, “The debate was, do you rise entirely above it and offer the olive branch of [Harry and Meghan being] ‘much-loved members of the family’? Or is there some moment when you have to intervene and offer a view?”
Both Prince William and Kate Middleton “were both of one mind that we needed something that said that the institution did not accept a lot of what had been said.” As per the source, Kate said, “It was Kate who clearly made the point, ‘History will judge this statement, and unless this phrase or a phrase like it is included, everything that they have said will be taken as true.’ “
