Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s Archewell Foundation is now facing fears of getting closed forever as the it has been legally accused of being “delinquent” over unpaid fees.
As ordered by The California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, the royal couple are now required to stop raising money for Archewell Foundation, or even using it for charity. Here’s everything you need to know.
Why Is Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation Declared Delinquent?
On May 3, the Archewell Foundation received a delinquency notice from California Attorney General Rob Bonta, acting on behalf of the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers. In the files that have been revealed, the notice stated that the organization is “listed as delinquent with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees.”
“An organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including soliciting or disbursing charitable funds,” the letter says.
“The organization may also be subject to penalties and its registration may be suspended or revoked by the Registry. Once you submit the delinquent record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees that are owed,” it further states.
A source with knowledge of the matter has claimed that although the foundation filed on time, a sent check was never received. It was not until the delinquency notice was sent that the foundation learned of this.
The Archewell Foundation has mailed a fresh cheque and anticipates that the problem will be promptly rectified and reflected in the records by the next week.

What Is The Archewell Foundation?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle founded The Archewell Foundation as a non profit organisation after they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020.

According to Prince Harry and Meghan, the Greek term “arche,” which means “source of action,” served as the inspiration for Archewell. It also became a close references to their son Prince Archie. Apart from that, the foundation shares it’s name with the couple’s production house, Archewell Productions.

The pair went on the tour at the invitation of Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, the nation’s top military officer, and it was significant because it was their first overseas trip since resigning from their royal positions in 2020.
Over time, the foundation has been involved in various social and charity work. As of now, the royal couple is awaiting further notice on the claimed ‘delinquency’ of the foundation.
