Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Secure Screen Rights To A Book For Netflix Adaptation Resembling Princess Diana’s Tragic Car Accident

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have hurt their images due to constant victimization through their narratives. The couple has created a rift between them and the royal family. They stepped down from royal duties in 2020, and since then, the two have pushed their narrative about the ill-treatment from the family after shifting to the USA.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle bagged deals with media giants like Netflix and Spotify to create content. They released their docuseries titled ‘Harry & Meghan’ on Netflix, which created a lot of chatter around the royal family. Meghan also launched her podcast ‘Archetypes’ on Spotify and gained a lot of traction, beating Joe Rogan’s podcast. However, recently, the couple had their Spotify deal canceled. There were conjectures about Netflix canceling the deal, but Harry and Meghan have found a project for their next Netflix venture.

Princess Diana had a tragic accident in Paris in August 1997, which led to her death. It deeply affected both her children, Prince Harry and Prince William. The former has been vocal about how her death sent him into depression, and he resorted to alcohol to numb his pain. In the recent Netflix docuseries, he drew a parallel between Princess Diana and Meghan Markle’s lives.

Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are adapting a novel for the screen that is similar to Diana’s car accident. They have purchased the rights to Carley Fortune’s book ‘Meet Me at the Lake.’

It was released in May and became ‘The New York Times’ bestseller. As per Deadline, the novel explores themes like “childhood trauma, including losing a parent in a car crash, mental health challenges, and post-natal depression.” A source told The Sun, “The themes of the book gripped the couple, and it was chosen for their first adaptation with Netflix.”

In June 2023, Spotify announced that it was parting ways with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘Archewell Audio.’ The couple signed a deal with the music streaming platform in 2020 for $20 million.

It became the most-listened-to podcast on Spotify and won the People’s Choice Award. Spotify and Archewell Audio released a joint statement, writing, “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”

After the Spotify deal fell apart, there was chatter that Netflix would also follow in the footsteps of Spotify. However, a Netflix spokesperson cleared the air around the rumors. The spokesperson said, “We value our partnership with Archewell Productions. Harry & Meghan was Netflix’s biggest documentary debut ever, and we’ll continue to work together on a number of projects, including the upcoming documentary series Heart of Invictus.”
