King Charles and Kate Middleton‘s back-to-back health scare had come off as surprising news for many. King Charles had surgery for an enlarged prostate, while Kate Middleton had abdominal surgery for reasons that are still shrouded in secrecy.
While both the royals have been reported to be in good health now, the two took very different approaches to dealing with their health issues. The Princess of Wales opted to keep her surgery a secret until it was successfully conducted, while the King chose to keep it transparent and gave the media a pre-emptive about it. Here’s the reason why the two had entirely different approaches to it.

King Charles And Kate Middleton Took Different Approaches To Announce Their Health Conditions
Kate Middleton’s “planned” abdominal surgery was kept a secret from even the closest of her friends. Reports suggest that the Princess of Wales did not even disclose it to the people who served royal duties for her very closely. King Charles, on the other hand, felt it necessary to issue a pre-emptive alert to prevent people from spiraling into speculation about his health.
“It was sensible to be more open about it, as otherwise, people might have thought the worst,” a palace insider told People on Thursday. In a statement issued on on January 17, Buckingham Palace disclosed that His Royal Highness would be undergoing a surgery for an “enlarged prostate” and scheduled for corrective surgery the following week. This was just a day subsequent to Middleton’s surgical procedure.
They assured that “His Majesty’s condition is benign” and that he is just going in “for a corrective procedure.” The palace also noted that an enlarged prostate is “common with thousands of men each year,” and is a reason why King Charles decided to speak out about it.
He reportedly wanted to inspire other men to consult their doctors about any looming medical issues. The royal appeal seemingly struck a chord, as a staggering 1061 percent surge was noted in searches about prostate enlargement on the U.K.’s National Health Service website. While the precise schedule for Charles’ surgery is still unclear, he chose to put the issue out there in public.

Kate Demanded The Details Of Her “Major” Surgery To Remain “Private”
Meanwhile, Middleton has kept the nature of her ailment under wraps still, though the authorities have assured that the it is noncancerous. Kate demanded that her medical information should be kept “private”, and therefore there’s only limited information available about it in the public domain.
However, her long recovery time has raised concerns since the palace not yet disclosed the nature of her condition. Another issue raising concerns is that the surgery was described as “major.” Her choice to keep it a secret is adding more speculation around her condition.
Reports suggested that those closest to the Princess of Wales had no idea about any sort of medical issues before it was announced to the world. According to People, “there had been no indication that anything was wrong” with Middleton, who also attended several royal events over the holidays.
Sources said that the “carefully guarded” news “came as a surprise” to her loved ones and those who “work closely” with her. It was a shock for even her estranged brother-in-law, Prince Harry, and sister-in-law Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have however sent their good wishes to the ailing royal members. A report earlier this week suggested “the King and the Princess of Wales have received support from Prince Harry and Meghan regarding their health.”
It also noted that the couple has “contacted both parties in different ways to pass on their concern and best wishes.” Though there is much speculation about Middleton’s health condition, the Duchess has encouraged people to “maintain as much normality for her children as possible.”
