The Royal Family has been slapped with an unpleasant surprise as King Charles is revealed to have been diagnosed with cancer. In the wake of their father’s serious health scare, the drama between the brothers Prince Harry and Prince William is expected to take a back seat but also see a positive development.
The brothers have maintained distance from each other because of their differences after Prince Harry got married to Meghan Markle against the royal protocols. The two have not communicated with each other for a year, but it is now speculated that they may come together and make amends in the face of their father’s health issues.
Prince Harry Is Flying To England To Meet His Ailing Father King Charles
With King Charles facing a health crisis, palace insiders ponder whether this adversity would be the point where Prince Harry would perhaps extend an olive branch to brother Prince William.
Though Prince Harry has had a troubled relationship with his father as well, he is trying to be there for him during the difficult times. After receiving the news of his father’s cancer diagnosis, the Duke of Sussex left California for England to be with him. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle and their children have stayed back in Montecito.
The 75-year-old monarch also made it a point to personally share the news of his illness with both sons. While the specifics of the cancer diagnosis remain undisclosed, Buckingham Palace clarified that it’s not prostate cancer but is related to treatment for a benign prostate enlargement.
King Charles disclosed his condition to other close family members, including Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. The possible repercussions of his illness have also triggered discussions about the royal hierarchy.

What Happens If King Charles Abdicates In The Face Of A Health Scare?
Some are also questioning whether William would need to assume the role of Prince Regent if Charles becomes incapacitated. Hugo Vickers, a royal family friend, has however dismissed the possibility of King Charles abdicating. “Charles will never abdicate. He’s an anointed king and he’s promised to serve to the end — and I don’t think he would want to [abdicate],” he said.
“William could become Prince Regent if Charles could not fulfil his duties, but Charles would remain king in name,” Vickers added.
Meanwhile, William may also find himself shouldering additional duties as his wife Kate is also recuperating from significant abdominal surgery. He is set to make public appearances, including an investiture at Windsor Castle and a gala fundraiser. But his estrangement from Harry remains a matter of curiosity for the masses.
Though the two have been raised together with love by their mother Princess Diana, the tensions between the two have been heightened since Harry’s estrangement from the royal family. What added fuel to the fire was the release of Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare’ wherein he narrated a physical altercation between the two over Meghan Markle’s treatment.
