‘The Idol’ has started an online pop culture battle about whether the series needs explicit scenes to propel the narrative. But the majority of the internet is finding the series with no substance. It caught the public’s ire when production and crew members came forward to describe the chaotic behind-the-scenes changes that derailed the series. But the stars of the series are out defending their product despite many loopholes and unnecessary sensationalization.
‘The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, is the story of a struggling pop star. When she is trying to resurrect her career, she meets a mystic man, Tedros, who helps her tap into her true potential. But the narrative is not moving forward past the hyper-s****ization of Jocelyn, and Tedros’ constant fetishization of art has become tiring. Now, the actress has come forward and defended her nude scenes in the series, saying that those were intentional.
Lily-Rose Depp Says That All Best Art Is Polarizing While Defending The Explicit Nature Of ‘The Idol’
‘The Idol’ wanted to satirize the dark and twisted nature of the music industry and how it has overtly s****ized women. However, after Sam Levinson came on board, the entire narrative changed. Instead of satirizing, it perpetuated the clichéd tropes of the industry. Audiences have expressed their reservations and anger over the unnecessary explicit scenes.
Lily-Rose Depp has come forward to address the heavy criticism of her recent cover interview with Vogue Australia. She said, “For me, the whole character and the show, and her arc was really a collaboration through and through.”
She continued, “We know that we’re making something provocative, and we are not shying away from that. That’s something I knew I was setting out to do from the beginning. I was never interested in making something puritanical. It’s okay if this show isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine—II think all the best art is polarizing.”

The Actress Admits That Nudity Was Important To Her
In the interview, Lily-Rose Depp admitted that the set environment was safe for all the actors. Lily added, “I’ve never felt more respected and more safe on a set, honestly. And I think the trust that we all built with each other, you and I, and Sam and I, and Abel and I, that can only make for a really safe-feeling set.”
Talking about the nudity, she said, “So when it comes to the nudity and the risqué nature of the role, that to me was really intentional. That was really important to me and something that I was excited about doing. I’m not scared of it. I think we live in a highly sexualized world. I think that’s an interesting thing to explore.”
