For all the laughs that came out of his brief appearance on ‘The Big Bang Theory,‘ it clearly left a sour taste for Charlie Sheen.
The cameo, which aired during the sitcom’s early years, brought together two Chuck Lorre worlds at a time when Sheen sat at the top of network television. Years later, however, Sheen admitted that a harmless joke on screen stirred far more brutal thoughts behind the scenes.
Charlie Sheen Never Liked His ‘Big Bang Theory’ Cameo

Sheen popped up during Season 2 of ‘The Big Bang Theory‘, in the episode ‘The Griffin Equivalency,’ where he shared a brief conversation with Raj at the Cheesecake Factory. While Raj excitedly bragged about landing in People magazine, Sheen’s character ultimately shut him down with a dry line about calling back when he made the cover.

Even though the scene only lasted seconds, it became a memorable crossover between two of Chuck Lorre’s biggest shows. At the time, Sheen was still riding high as Charlie Harper on ‘Two and a Half Men‘, a ratings juggernaut that often served as a lead-in for ‘The Big Bang Theory‘. From Sheen’s perspective, the nerdy comedy owed much of its early success to his own sitcom’s popularity.
The belief hardened after his explosive exit from Two and a Half Men in 2011. In a 2013 interview, Sheen bluntly called ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ “a piece of s—.” He added that he liked the cast but felt the show would not survive without ‘Two and a Half Men‘ propping it up. However, history proved otherwise, as ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ went on to run for 12 seasons and wrapped up in 2019.
The Fallout With Chuck Lorre Changed Everything

Charlie Sheen’s harsh comments came at the height of Sheen’s very public feud with Chuck Lorre. After being fired, Sheen lashed out repeatedly, hurled insults, and burned bridges in interviews. Looking back, he admitted he deliberately kept his distance, saying he had “backed off from him for a while” after the fallout.

For years, it seemed unlikely the two would ever work together again, and Sheen never publicly revisited his Big Bang Theory cameo with any warmth. But everything changed when Lorre reached out with an unexpected offer.
Lorre asked Sheen to appear in HBO Max’s ‘Bookie,’ casting him as a version of himself weighed down by gambling debts. Sheen agreed, despite initial nerves, and reopened a door that had been firmly shut for years. While Sheen hasn’t publicly said whether his feelings about ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ have softened since reconciling with Lorre, the bitterness that fueled his earlier remarks appears to have faded.
