‘House of the Dragon‘ has been well received by critics and audiences alike. The show is set 200 years before the events of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘.
One of the biggest highlights of the show, based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 book ‘Fire & Blood‘, is the dragons. The fire-breathing creatures take a centre stage in it as the Targaryen know how to control them. But the question of how they came into existence still looms.

How Did Dragons Come Into Existence?
Dragons are an integral part of Martin’s universe and both the shows, ‘Game of Thrones‘ and its prequel ‘House of the Dragon.’ They change the direction of the show’s narrative often. But there have always been questions about the origin of these flying beasts.
According to the books, the Valyrians first discovered dragons on the Fourteen Fires. It is the area where a chain of volcanoes surrounds Valyria on the south-central coast of Essos. It is still unclear if they were native to Valyria or migrated from somewhere else.
They would fly around the skies from Westeros to Yi Ti in the Dawn Age before the Long Night. Some ancient dragon skeletons were also found in several scattered locations.
Apart from Valyria, Asshai and the surrounding Shadow Lands seem to be the other potential places of the dragon. Their skeletons and dragon eggs have been frequently found in this region.
In the conquest of the Rhoynar, there were at least 300 Valyrian dragons, out of which only three dragons survived. They belonged to House Targaryen, which used them to conquer the Seven Kingdoms. Dragons were kept in Westeros for more than a century. Later, the Targaryens kept their preserved skulls on display in the Red Keep.

Vhagar Is The Largest Dragon In ‘House Of The Dragon’
The HBO show features a number of new characters, one of them is a Dragon named Vhagar. She is the largest dragon in the known world.
She was hatched from a Dragon Egg on Dragonstone during the Century of Blood. The name was derived from the God of the Valyrian Freehold. Queen Visneya became the first person to ride Vhagar.
Visneya set ablaze the Arryn fleet that had captured one-third of Targaryen’s ships with the help of Vhagar. She also lit up the funeral pyre of King Aegon I.
Vhagar was the last of the three Targaryens to have fought in the conquest. She reminded riderless for years after the death of Queen Visneya and Prince Baelon.
