The third season of the HBO fantasy drama, ‘House of the Dragon’, has already received a ton of praise from early reviews, with many hailing it as the show’s best season to date and a welcome improvement on the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. 

The enthusiasm is already reflected on Rotten Tomatoes, where Season 3 debuted with a perfect 100% critics’ score from its initial batch of reviews, making it the highest-rated season in the show’s history so far, even passing its predecessor.

Season 3 comes at a turning point in the narrative. The political rivalry and animosity that have been brewing for two seasons have finally come to a head. The Dance of the Dragons officially underway. Critics who have watched the first half of the season have pointed out the show’s bigger size, faster pace, and deeper emotional stakes.

Some have pointed out that the series is even bolder than ever, with the epic confrontations and character-driven drama that made ‘Game of Thrones’ a cultural phenomenon. Emma D’Arcy has been singled out for praise for her portrayal of Rhaenyra Targaryen. 

Rhaenyra reportedly plays a much more active role this time, after being a tame character in the previous season. She finally has the chance to demonstrate strength and vulnerability. Early standout cast member James Norton has also made a splash with his role as Ormund Hightower, with critics praising his performance.

Season 3 Might Be The Much-Needed Win For The Franchise

The positive response is particularly noteworthy given that the ‘Game of Thrones’ franchise has been working hard to regain the trust of viewers since the end of the original series was controversial. The first season of ‘House of the Dragon’ was well-received.
