House of the Dragon’ season 3 looks poised to be as much about emotional warfare as physical, as the Dance of the Dragons is about to get its bloodiest yet.

The cast, in an interview with SR, revealed that many of the show’s biggest developments will be within its characters, while fans have been waiting for huge battles such as the Battle of the Gullet.

The Green faction will be put under a tremendous emotional strain in Season 3. Despite being separated for years, Alicent still has a maternal affection for her youngest son, Daeron, as Olivia Cooke revealed.

Alicent thinks that he is safe in Oldtown, but he is preparing to join the war with his dragon. Cooke thinks her character would be destroyed if she found out the truth. “She would be rightly devastated and angry. I don’t know how much that can really penetrate her at this point.”

Meanwhile, Aegon is angry after the events of season 2. Actor Tom Glynn-Carney said that the king is angry at both Rhaenyra and his brother Aemond. “In terms of Aemond, there’s something so deeply personal about what he’s done, and cowardly about what he’s done. And yeah, Aegon really, really wants to get his hands on him.”

Aegon’s bitterness against Aemond goes beyond politics, and it’s a potent mix of emotions that could boil over at any moment. “I think he glorifies the moment and really kind of yearns for the moment that he gets his hands on him, and he just wouldn’t hold back, I think, if he got hold of his face.”

Another interesting change is the one in Daemon Targaryen. The rogue prince is a man who has been changed by his mysterious experiences at Harrenhal. The actor said Daemon has come back with a newfound sense of purpose and spiritual clarity, and has become even more aligned with Rhaenyra than ever before.

I think, quite simply, he misses his wife, and he wants to be about her, and he wants to serve,” Matt shared. It’s a very dramatic turn for a character that has been following his own agenda for much of the series.

The most telling aspect of the cast’s remarks is that the coming battle will be very personal. These aren’t simply rival armies preparing for battle. They’re broken families filled with resentment, grief, guilt, and regret. Each of the big boys seems to be coming into season 3 with a heartache that may be as lethal as a dragon’s fire.

This is something that ‘House of the Dragon’ has always excelled at. There is a story here about people making impossible choices, under the guise of dragons and war.

As alliances change and the series is filled with characters seeking revenge, season 3 promises to be one of the most emotionally charged seasons of the series to date. And if the cast’s hints are any indication, nobody will emerge unchanged.
