Sam Levinson will be bringing back the sultriness with Lily Rose-Depp and Abel Tesfaye in ‘The Idol.’ The HBO series will explore the journey of a disturbed pop star, Jocelyn, who meets a night manager at an L.A. club, Tedros Tedros. The two start a romantic relationship, but there is more to Tedros’ enigma. It also stars Dan Levy, Jennie, Troye Sivan, Elizabeth Berkley, and others.
Amy Seimetz’s exit and the borderline pornographic narrative embroiled ‘The Idol’ in controversy. Despite all the odds, the series premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, and it received a thunderous response from the festivalgoers. It received a five-minute standing ovation. Blinks have speculated that Jennie is playing a bisexual character in the film, despite no information about her role.

Blackpink’s Jennie Found The Story Of ‘The Idol’ Charming
When it comes to Sam Levinson’s content, one may accept the complex, young, overtly sexualized arcs playing out in the narrative. ‘The Idol’ is no different, but here he will be exploring the facade of the alluring show business world. Levinson is not new to exploring queer narratives.
In ‘Euphoria,’ we see a strong-headed relationship between Rue and Jules. Now, in ‘The Idol,’ he has recruited the debutante, Jennie, to play a bisexual, as per her fans, BLINKs.
The eagle-eyed fans of Blackpink‘s Jennie spotted this detail in the trailer in 2022. In the trailer, Jocelyn and Jennie are seen in a sauna together before heading out to a nightclub.
Jennie, through her talent agency, talked about the role she is playing in the most anticipated series of 2023. She said, “As soon as I read the scenario, I thought that the story was very charming, and so I wanted to be a part of it. I’m excited, and I’ll do my best, so I hope that everyone will look forward to it.”

The Series Is Involved In Controversies
Even before its premiere at Cannes, ‘The Idol’ was involved in controversy. It all started when Sam Levinson donned the director’s hat after Amy Seimetz edited the series. Originally, the vision of the series was to satirize Hollywood and the tawdry glamor of the industry. But Sam Levinson changed the narrative and allegedly made it extremely sexual.
Rolling Stone wrote an investigative piece where the crew and production members talked about the change of narrative after Levinson’s arrival. One of the sources said, “It was like any rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show—and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better.”
A production member talked about the satirical part of the script. The member said, “What I signed up for was a dark satire of fame and the fame model in the 21st century. The things that we subject our talent and stars to, the forces that put people in the spotlight, and how that can be manipulated in the post-Trump world. It went from satire to the thing it was satirizing.”
