Kelly Monaco To Exit ‘General Hospital’ After 21 Iconic Years As Sam McCall

After captivating audiences for over two decades, Kelly Monaco, the face behind the iconic Sam McCall, is set to exit ‘General Hospital‘ this fall. The beloved actress has been a staple on the ABC soap opera since 2003.

Monaco joined the soap opera in 2003 after working on the spinoff series ‘Port Charles,’ in which she portrayed Livvie Locke from 2000 to 2003. Her move to ‘General Hospital‘ turned out to be a game-changer, both for her career and the show’s dynamic.

Kelly Monaco’s portrayal of Sam McCall has been nothing short of legendary. Introduced as a cunning con artist, Sam quickly became a fan favorite with her complex backstory and ties to some of Port Charles’ most notorious figures.

With mob boss Julian Jerome (William deVry) as her biological father and the formidable Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) as her mother, Sam’s life was destined to be dramatic. And let’s not forget the illegal adoption by Cody McCall (Stanley Kamel) and Evelyn Bass.

Monaco’s dedication to the role is evident in her impressive run of over 2,200 episodes. In 2006, she even snagged a Daytime Emmy nomination for her outstanding performance.

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. In 2020, Monaco faced a brief hiatus, with Lindsay Hartley stepping in temporarily. Despite these bumps, Monaco has remained a fan favorite, and her exit will undoubtedly leave a void.

Monaco’s exit isn’t the only shake-up in ‘General Hospital‘. While it’s sad to see her go, Monaco’s departure signals a significant shift in the storyline that fans won’t want to miss.

The soap opera has seen the return of several veterans, including Jonathan Jackson as Lucky Spencer and Rick Hearst as Ric Lansing. According to Variety, Emma Samms is also making a comeback as Holly Sutton this September.

As last seen in 2023, Holly, Anna (Finola Hughes) and Scott (Kin Shriner) joined forces to stop Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) from unleashing biological warfare to wipe out 80% of the world population. After crossing that task off their list of priorities, Holly left for Australia following the failure of her attempt to revive her romance with Robert (Tristan Rogers).

As Monaco says her goodbyes to the show, we can’t help but wonder if this is truly the last we’ll see of Sam McCall. Catch-up all episodes of ‘General Hospital‘ on ABC.
