Look Back At Emma Mackey’s Favorite Moments As Maeve In ‘Sex Education’

The last session of the Moordale students will begin with the fourth and last season of the Netflix original series ‘Sex Education.’  Started in 2019, the series viscerally captured the tumultuous teen years of students from Moordale and their inquisitiveness towards sex. It stars Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve Wiley.

The characters experienced betrayal, fear, sadness, and fulfillment while exploring their sexuality, relationships, and academic aptitude. Maeve’s character is one of the standouts in the series. She is a gritty girl, wearing feminism on her sleeves and encasing the sex problems of her peers for her benefit. But there are many heartwarming moments with the character’s mother, step-sister, and friend Aimee, played by Aimee Lou Wood.

Maeve Wiley is one of the most brilliantly written characters in contemporary times. She is a fierce, intelligent woman, but she has a lot of love to give that remains forbidden due to her absent family. Emma Mackey‘s character comes across Aimee, who is part of the Untouchables, the rich and snobby kids at Moordale. However, she grows fonder of Maeve, and it marks the start of a lovely friendship.

During an interview with BuzzFeed, Emma Mackey talked about her favorite moments as Maeve Wiley. Emma said, There are lots of lovely, important moments for Maeve’s development, especially with her relationships with people. I love the scenes that Aimee and I have together. They’re always sort of in front of my mind. I also love the scenes with Maeve’s mum, with Erin. They mean a lot to me.”

Mackey went on to admire Anne, saying, “I just love and admire Anne-Marie Duff so much, so anytime I get to work with her is a real treat. She teaches me a lot and she’s a really good guide to have on set. She’s a good woman to look up to and a good human.”

Though not the most loved couple online, Maeve and Ottis kept the audience hooked on their love story. But their story was always shadowed by their other flings. Everyone loved the Otis-Ruby romance, but there were some heartwarming moments between Otis and Emma’s characters. One of them is in the first season, when she goes for an abortion, and Otis comes to the clinic with flowers and a sandwich.

But Emma Mackey‘s favorite moment in the series is from season one as well. She told Buzzfeed about it, saying, “I really love the scene in Season 1 when he gives her his jumper. For some reason, that little moment on the bridge is one of my favorites. I was like, “Oh, man.” It’s a real heart-warmer. I love that one. It has an innocence to it, which I quite like.”
