All About ‘Love And Death’ Plot
Elizabeth Olsen plays Candy Montgomery, a suburban housewife caught in the monotony of life. But deep inside, she yearns for a more complex life that offers her all the thrills she can dream of. Things take a turn after the arrival of her neighbors Allan and Betty Gore (Jesse Plemons and Betty Gilpin). Soon, she embarks on an affair with Allan. As the entanglement gets complicated, Betty’s dead body turns up.
‘Love And Death‘ is based on the true story of a Texas housewife, Candy Montgomery, who was suspected of murdering her best friend, Betty Gore. She struck Betty Gore 41 times with a wood-splitting axe in a crime of passion. During her trial, she told the jury that she was defending herself from Betty, who accused her of having an extra-marital affair with Allan.
Before her trial, she successfully passed a polygraph test. It prompted the opposing side to hypothesize she might have fled the murder scene. Eventually, Candy Montgomery was found not guilty by the jury on October 30, 1980. The verdict didn’t sit well with the public. It remains a case of great public interest.
