‘Pretty Little Liars’ Series Finale Explained

It is the end of an era. After seven successful series, ‘Pretty Little Liars’ came to an end in 2017. The series finale finally revealed who ‘A’ was and the horror finally was laid to rest. The series is adapted from the series of novels written by Sara Shepard. Its creepy theme music, intense scenes, and dark secrets really kept the show going until the cast unanimously decided to quit.

Set in the fictional town of Rosewood, the series follows the lives of – Aria Montgomery, Hannah Marin, Emily Fields, Spencer Hastings, and Alison DiLaurentis whose clique fell apart after Alison went missing. One year later, the remaining four friends are reunited as they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure named ‘A’, who threatens to expose their deepest secrets, including ones they thought only Alison knew.

    Pretty Little Liars: Explained

Initially, the series started as refreshing and was pretty interesting, but later the showrunners kept on dragging which made it dull. The identity of the stalker ‘A’ (later known as A.D) was finally revealed in the two-hour-long finale episode of the series ‘Til DeAth Do Us PArt‘.

While putting the pieces together, Spencer discovered that she was adopted by the Hastings family. As the saying goes, the Black sheep is always in the family, which turned out to be true at the end of the series. The antagonist all along was Spencer’s evil British twin, Alex Drake a.k.a ‘A.D’.

Alex Drake is the daughter of Mary Drake and Peter Hastings and Spencer was completely unaware of her existence. Driven by her jealousy of Spencer and her desire to avenge Charlotte, Alex visits Rosewood to torment the girls one final time.

The series ends with no loose ends and all the characters got their deserved ‘happy ending”. Alison and Emily get engaged and are raising twins. After the long wait, Aria and Ezra tie the knot and it also revealed that Hannah is pregnant.

In one of the final scenes, Mona is shown holding Mary Drake, and Alex in a room, making tea and calling them her ‘dolls’. Creepy and spine-shuddering! The ending mirrors the series premiere as Will tells her friends that Addison Derringer is missing and thinks she heard her scream, the same way Spencer first told the girls that Alison is missing and she heard her scream.
