Be it the filthy clown or an uncharacteristically loving human being, we love all shades of Roman Roy on ‘Succession‘. The slime baby of the Roy family is a surprising take on the runt of the litter of rich siblings. Played by Kieran Culkin, the internet has accepted him for his hilarious and profanity-laced zingers. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
In the final season, Roman heads the Roy empire with his brother Kendall Roy. There are no romantic relationships on the horizon for him at present. But do you remember when Roman was introduced as a married man with a daughter? Yes, Roman had a family before he went on to have two strikingly different relationships.
‘Succession’: Where Did Roman’s Wife And Daughter Go After Pilot Episode?
In the first episode of ‘Succession,’ we meet Roman and his family at Logan Roy’s birthday get-together. The woman, played by Molly Griggs, credited as Grace Roy, is seen wearing bands like Roman. Their daughter Isla (Noelle Hogan) is also present at the party. We only see them again in the first season’s fifth episode, where Roman and Grace argue with Isla in another room. We chalked it down to a continuity error, but that’s not the case.

Kieran Culkin, who plays Roman on the show, addressed it too while speaking with Variety. He said the characters’ relationship changed with the show’s success. He explained, “It was in the pilot, and after it was picked up, it was his girlfriend, and she had a child. I’m wearing my real wedding band in the episode. I was excited about the idea of having a kid, and the kid was like 7 or 8. It was a little disappointing, but I think the idea was that it would just give them more freedom to play with the character.”
‘Succession’: Roman Roy’s Relationships
With Roman rewritten as a bachelor, the possibilities for his character were endless. This unloved, unpredictable court jester who thrives on humiliation engages in dysfunctional relationships. As humiliating as his relationships are for him, they give the show its best moments. His only “relationships” on the show are with Tabitha (Caitlin FitzGerald) and Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron).

Tabitha first appeared on ‘Succession’ during Tom’s bachelor party in the first season. Later, she began dating Roman a month after her sexual encounter with Tom. With the same sick sense of humor, Tabitha and Roman get along. Despite his lack of sexual interest, she stays with him. Unfortunately, we never see her after the second season.
Then came Roman’s demented pseudo-sexual relationship with Gerri. Roman’s lack of filter is always terrifying for the people around him. But Gerri, who seems to mentor him, gets into a strange proposition with the man-child. Roman’s arrangement with Gerii fetishes his shame and fears, finally allowing Gerri to dominate a Roy. Once she becomes interim CEO, she calls it off, but Roman keeps harassing her until he accidentally sends a suggestive text to a room full of people who aren’t Gerri.
