‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ is coming back with season 5. The streaming platform Hulu announced that the Emmy-winning drama will return on September 14. They have also released the first official images and fans are very excited.

A Sneak Peek Into ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 5
The story will pick up after the events of season 4 and June will face the consequences of killing Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). Meanwhile, Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), is attempting to raise her profile as the widowed Commander’s wife in Toronto as Gilead’s influence starts to creep into Canada. But, she’s not the only one trying to seize power as Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) is working with Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) to reform Gilead and ensure his own rise through the ranks.
Elsewhere, June, as well as Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley), continue their uprising against Gilead. Their mission is also about saving June’s firstborn, Hannah.
Alexis Bledel Won’t Return For The New Season
Sadly, one major character will be missing from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ Season 5. The beloved character is Emily (Alexis Bledel). The actress even won an Emmy for her performance as a Gilead survivor in the show.
‘After much thought, I felt I had to step away from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ at this time,’ said the 40-year-old actress, who was a series regular. ‘I am forever grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support,’ she told Variety.
The new season comes a year after Season 4 concluded in June 2021. It had one of the most shocking finales. Ultimately, what the finale did for the series was explained by Max Minghella, who plays Commander Blaine. He said the finale allowed things “to go in directions that we could not have done before.”
About Margaret Atwood’s Novel Which Inspired The Show
The hit show is based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood. The show takes place in a patriarchal dystopian setting called Gilead, which was founded in what used to be the United States. Women have been reduced to a status far beneath that of men, deprived of basic rights such as being permitted to read, use money or walk alone. ‘Handmaids’ are the women forced under veils and subjected to a form of slavery in which they are repeatedly raped for the purpose of producing children.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ season 5 will premiere on Hulu on September 14.
