‘The Office‘ is one of the most loved and celebrated sitcoms of all time. Its interesting yet peculiar characters, awkward situations as well as dry humor have made it a timeless classic. Two of the most important character in the sitcom are Andy Bernard and Erin Hannon.
Andy was introduced in the third season and immediately became a character everyone hated. Erin, on the other hand, was introduced much later in the fifth season. The two quickly start a friendship which morphs into a strong bond. However, they don’t end up together.

‘The Office’: Erin Hannon And Andy Bernand’s Love Story
When Andrew ‘Andy’ Bernard was first introduced in ‘The Office‘, he was immediately disliked by the viewers. His short temper, insecurity, and tantrums weren’t well received. But the character bounces back in the follow-up seasons.
Slowly, we get to see the softer side of him and he quickly becomes a fan-favorite character. Toward the end of season four, Pam quits Dunder Mifflin to join Michael Scott Paper Company.
Kelly ‘Erin’ Hannon is then hired as the office receptionist. After Dwight Schrute takes a step back, Andy starts flirting with Erin and slowly she also starts to like him. For the show’s fans, it was another love story for them to witness after Jim and Pam’s.

They Part Ways Towards The End
The two get into a relationship but things fall apart after Michael reveals that Andy had a year-long engagement with Angela. Erin feels hurt as she was unaware of this fact. Later on, she starts dating Gabe.
After Gabe leaves the show, it was the perfect moment for their romance to rekindle and to give the audiences what they wanted. Even though Erin tells him that she has feelings for him, Andy rejects her.
This was because he felt hurt as she dated Gabe. But it didn’t sit well with Andy’s character. Erin is obviously devasted and so are the audiences. It’s unclear why couldn’t the makers take this small story to its beautiful conclusion. The cocky Andy we saw at the beginning returns and this further disappoints Erin.
All these changes don’t make sense in the overall scheme of things as they seem haphazardly conceived. A beautiful opportunity of creating another innocent love story between the two was missed.
