‘House of the Dragon‘ has dropped its first episode and it’s been received well by the audiences and critics. The show, based on parts of George R. R. Martin’s 2018 ‘Fire & Blood’, takes place around 200 years before the original event. Its primary focus is on the House of Targaryen.

What Is ‘Doom Of Valyria’ Mentioned In ‘House Of The Dragon’?
In the first episode of HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon‘, King Viserys I Targaryen talks about an event called the doom of valyria. Most viewers who aren’t familiar with George R. R. Martin‘s books were puzzled.
According to the ‘Game of Thrones‘ fandom website, the doom of valyria was a catastrophic event that took place almost four hundred years before the War of the Five Kings.
Often called the doom, its nature is unspecified and caused the collapse of the Valyrian Freehold, which was in existence for five thousand years in Essos. It completely destroyed the city of Old Valyria and wrecked a majority of the surrounding Valyrian Peninsula.
The destruction of its capital city in one day, in turn, caused the fall of the entire Valyrian Freehold. It also led the House Targaryen to conquer the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
On the day of the doom, every hill in the region exploded, which even killed the dragons. Massive earthquakes everything while lakes boiled. It led to the collapse of an entire civilization.
Aftermath Of The Doom Of Valyria
The surviving colonies of this catastrophic event re-asserted their independence, It also led to a series of wars and destruction called the “Century of Blood”.
Volantis, during this time, tried to reform the Valyrian empire under their rule. Later, a lot of colonies formed into free cities in the west. The event drastically has several geographical and political effects on the region.
At the same time, the Dothraki warriors went berserk without the Valyrians and dragons to keep them in check. They carved out new places from the surrounding areas and expanded like never before.
‘House of the Dragon‘ premiered on Sunday, August 22. The first season will consist of ten episodes with the second scheduled to release on August 28.
