Who Is The Voice Of ‘Gossip Girl’ In The Original Show And The Reboot?

Gossip Girl is one of the classic shows that got a successful reboot and has given its audiences a lot of reasons to love it. One of the rather important aspects of the show was its narrative style, with the story of the show being narrated by an anonymous blogger known as the Gossip Girl.

The appealing voice, at some point or the other, must have made the audience wonder who it belongs to. The voice behind this character was none other than Kristen Bell, a renowned actress known for her roles in movies like ‘Frozen’ and TV shows like ‘The Good Place’ and ‘Veronica Mars’.

The Identity Of ‘Gossip Girl’ Narrator

The television series first aired from 2007 to 2012, with Kristen Bell’s narration as a defining feature. Though the audiences had the show’s story unfolding in front of them, it was Bell’s narration that offered a perspective on the lives of the privileged upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The main characters of the show included Serena van der Woodsen played by Blake Lively, Blair Waldorf played by Leighton Meester, Dan Humphrey played by Penn Badgley, Nate Archibald played by Chace Crawford, and Chuck Bass played by Ed Westwick. In the highly anticipated reboot of ‘Gossip Girl that premiered on HBO Max in 2021, these characters did not make an appearance despite their mentions in the reboot.

Did Kristen Bell Return For ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot?

Kristen Bell, however, reprised her role as the voice of Gossip Girl. She has described the voice of the narrator as a “catty version” of her own voice, which she opined is specifically designed to complement the nature of the show. Despite initial wariness from test audiences during the original series, Bell’s voice-over work became a critical part of the show’s identity, so much so that her return was considered essential for the reboot.

In its reboot, the show introduced a new generation of New York teens dealing with the ramifications of social surveillance. The only original cast member to appear in the reboot was Georgina Sparks, portrayed by Michelle Trachtenberg. However, other original cast members, including Blake Lively, have expressed interest in reprising their roles.
