Rick Riordan’s most renowned book series, ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’, is now made into a series on Disney+. Since 2005, the books have had a hold on a generation as they set Greek mythology in contemporary times through the journey of a young New York teenager, Percy Jackson.
After the success of the books, there were attempts made to translate the magic of the books onto celluloid, but they were not greatly received. Now, along with Jon Steinberg, Rick Riordan has made the first book, ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ into a series, and the series is deemed to be a lot different from the book.

Adapting a book for movies is a strenuous task, as the fandoms and bibliophiles are very particular about the portrayal of the world, especially the sci-fi and the mythical world.
Jon Steinberg and Rick Riordan have taken on the task of translating the magical world of Percy Jackson onto small screens, and while doing so, they have made a million changes in the visual treatment of the literature.
In an interview with The Direct, Jon Steinberg said that they have made many changes to ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ as they were delving into a different medium of storytelling. He said, “I think you have to embrace the idea that everything in the book is going to have to find a different form to inhabit in order to be something I’d want to watch on screen.”

While mounting the world of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’, Rick Riordan was excited to have a second go at some sequences after writing the book almost two decades ago.
Jon continued, “So sometimes it’s sequencing, it’s causation, it’s the way set pieces play out is a little different, but it made it work better. Some of it is bigger, some of them, frankly, are things that I think Rick [Riordan] was excited about getting a second go at it.”
Steinberg added, “He wrote that book 20 some odd years ago, and you don’t get a second draft… And I think it was exciting and fun for him to sit in conversation about, ‘Alright, let’s rip the lid off this thing again.’”
In a recent episode of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ titled ‘We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium’, the makers took the liberty to tweak the confrontation scene between Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson. They did not underline the prophecy that Percy had and chose to put a confrontation scene between them after the battle with Medusa.
