At the recently held D23 Expo 2022, several films and television shows under the Disney title were revealed. It includes the official trailer of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ which was unveiled in front of the crowd. The much-beloved character will now be a Disney+ series and is currently in production.
The character Percy Jackson has appeared in a series of fantasy novels that are loved by millions of readers across the globe. It has been adapted into films twice, once in 2010 and then in 2013. Both films met with mixed reviews and failed to create an impact at the box office.
Who Is Percy Jackson?
Disney+ will have a new show called ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ that is currently in production. But who is Percy Jackson, the titular character?
Created by author Rick Riordan, Percy is a demigod in the books. He is the son of mortal Sally Jackson and the Greek god Poseidon. Percy suffers from Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia because he was hardwired to read Ancient Greek and has “battlefield reflexes.”
His mother Sally married a man named Gabe Ugliano when Percy was very young. Gabe treated Percy badly and was abusive towards him and Sally. She later leaves him forever.
Goddess Athena calls him that he is “changeable like the sea” and unpredictable. Percy is extremely loyal to his friends and family and is very protective of them as well. This quality is revealed in different ways in the later books.

What Are His Powers?
Percy had powers from the beginning which start small and develop as the story proceeds. This includes controlling water, creating hurricanes, underwater breathing, and talking to horse-like animals and marine creatures.
He also becomes a trained sword fighter and eventually a leader. After being trained at Camp Half-Blood, Percy learns a deadly Greek fighting style.
Percy was actually given a curse by Achilles, which made him invulnerable except for the small area of his back. This happened right after bathing in the River Styx which forms a boundary between earth and the underworld.
The demi-god is more powerful than most of the godchildren. He can control water and currents and operate old sailing ships with his mind. He can also create small earthquakes.
