Well, fans can rest assured that they will receive a proper ending to the show since according to Deadline, the production was made aware of season 7 being the final season beforehand. It is unclear if it was the introduction of the new show ‘911’ that led to the cancellation of the show.
No other reason has been cited by ABC or Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group apart from him praising the show. “For seven seasons Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda [Rhimes] and Betsy [Beers]’ incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” he said. “With Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paige] at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.” So viewers can expect to see some more exciting episodes in the final season as well.
