Paul Newman is considered one of the greatest sex symbols of his time. But he reveals in his memoir that that was not the case always. “Girls thought I was a joke-a happy buffoon,” Newman reveals, that is before he met his wife Joanne Woodward.
Newman’s memoir ‘The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man: A Memoir‘, is a compilation of his life and career. The actor began compiling an oral history of his life in the 80s, by conducting interviews with his family and friends, including his own memos. His only rule was that they had to be “completely honest“.

What Was Paul Newman And Joanne Woodward’s ‘F***hut’?
As mentioned in PEOPLE, in the memoir, Woodward explains that he didn’t really feel sexy until he met his wife Joanne. He explained, “Joanne gave birth to a sexual creature. We left a trail of lust all over the place. Hotels and public parks and Hertz Rent-A-Cars.” The actor reveals in the memoir that Woodward had fixed up a separate room in their Beverly Hills home where she put up a double bed that she got from a thrift store and proudly called it the “F***hut“.
In an excerpt obtained by the magazine, Newman reflects on the f—hut, “It had been done with such affection and delight. Even if my kids came over, we’d go into the f***hut several nights a week and just be intimate and noisy and ribald.” While Newman detailed his sex life with his wife Joanne, his daughters seemed to approve of their parent’s personal time.

Newman And Joanne’s Daughters Approve Of Their Parent’s F***hut
Melissa Newman, daughter of Paul Newman and Joanne Newman gave the “f***hut” their total approval as she said that they appreciated their parent’s love for one another. According to Vanity Fair, Soderlund added, “I have to admit, I read that, and I was like, ‘Go Mom.‘”
While the editing of the memoir was going on, Melissa and Soderlund mentioned that they had their doubts about whether to reveal this part of the risky story. But then they were like “Oh, why not, we all knew that was going to be the headline of everything, and I think it’s awesome.”
