Does Aizawa Truly Lose His Powers?

Ever since the start of the anime, Aizawa’s quirk has been described as both dangerous and helpful. Aizawa can stop someone from using their quirks as long as he is looking at them without blinking. This quirk is exceptionally beneficial as it can stop practically anyone, but it has a limit as Aizawa can keep his eyes open without blinking for a short amount of time. This quirk of his proved to be quite helpful in the battle against Shigaraki.

Aizawa knew about the bullets and was mentally prepared for them. The bullets themselves are not lethal, it is the liquid they carry in them that is dangerous. Since that liquid needs time to reach the body and suppress the quirk, immediate action can prevent the person from losing their quirk. Aizawa cut off his leg with his knife after being hit by the bullet to stop the liquid from reaching his body. This successfully stopped him from losing his powers. Therefore, Aizawa does not lose his powers.

How Did He Lose His Leg And Eye?

Aizawa lost his leg and eye in this battle. Erasure, Aizawa’s quirk, had been used to negate all of Tomura Shigaraki’s powers. Shigaraki decided that the teacher was the largest obstacle to his plan, so he set out to subjugate him. Despite being stopped by Ryukyu and Deku, Shigaraki was still able to hit Aizawa with one of the Quirk-erasing bullets.

However, as mentioned above, Aizawa was aware of the bullets and took action. He cut off his leg to prevent the drug from spreading. This prevented him from losing Erasure entirely, but it also damaged him and limited his ability to maneuver about the battlefield.

This, however, was not the end, as Shigaraki seized this opportunity to charge forward, grasp Aizawa’s face, and attempt to smash out his eyeballs with force. By doing this he would effectively render him blind and unable to use his quirk. Shoto Todoroki, who had just arrived, used his ice to defend his teacher. Even though he didn’t lose his eyes, Aizawa passed out from his wounds.

Aizawa recovered in Central Hospital after the Paranormal Liberation War. When he was released, a prosthetic limb was fitted in place of his severed leg. He had a second battle scar above his eye, and after losing his right sight to Shigaraki’s devastating blow, he was compelled to cover it with an eyepatch. Aizawa mentioned that even though he could use Erasure, he couldn’t use it effectively after the battle with Shigaraki. This is how Aizawa lost his eye and his leg.
