‘Fairy Tail’ protagonist Natsu often seems in the middle of all chaos. Where there’s any commotion going on, you’ll find our favorite character involved in it directly or indirectly. The group of five including, Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Erza, and Happy are mostly the center focus of the guild.
Throughout the series, the guild faces tough challenges while overcoming them by getting stronger. Unfortunately, getting stronger doesn’t bless them with victory all the time. The Dark Guild Tartaros proved to be Fairy Tail’s greatest foe, as it aimed for the ultimate ancient magic, that lay deep within the guild’s foundation.

Why Did Natsu Leave The Guild After The Tartaros Arc?
During the fight between Fairy Tail and Tartaros, many characters lost their beloved ones. Starting from Lucy who broke Aquarius’s key to saving her comrades, to Gray’s father who died in his arms. Their loss deeply affected the characters, but that wasn’t all. Natsu who for years kept searching for Igneel (his dad), died in front of his eyes.
While all the dragons that came to help the country perished after the nightmare was over, Igneel’s death was a different case. Acnologia killed him in front of Natsu, which scarred him for his life. He knew he had to grow far stronger than he is now, and decided to leave the guild temporarily for training purposes. He left a note to Lucy and left on his journey with Happy.

Why Did The Guild Disband?
Following Natsu’s departure, the Fairy Tail master Makarov decided to disband the guild. Natsu was unaware of the fact as he already left the town late the earlier night. The greatest threat to the guild was Zeref, who sought the magic power that was sealed inside the guild. Makarov knew that the Alvarez Kingdom will soon launch an attack on Ishgar. To prevent his family from getting hurt, he disbanded the guild and all the members went their own way.

Much was lost in the Tartaros war. They all need time to settle their mind before coming together once again. The Fairy Magic that was kept sealed, held huge magical potential enough to destroy an entire nation. If it would have fallen into the wrong hands, there was no saving anyone from it.
While they went separate ways, Makarov visited the Alvarez Kingdom in hopes to delay the attack on the country of Ishgar. The first mention was made when the guild participated in the Best of All fight competition, and later when Gildarts was named the next master of Fairy Tail. Purehito also mentioned its name during the Tartaros War. He asked Natsu and his group to tell Makarov that it was time to unleash the light.
